Don Boadway (Boads) was born in Detroit and raised in Chicago and took to music early studying Trumpet for eight years before the bass line in “living loving maid” by Led Zeppelin caught his ear midway through high school and he picked up a bass for the first time.
Boads taught himself to play by immersing himself in early Rush and Iron Maiden records. After graduating high school Boads played the local Chicago circuit, at one point playing the role of Alice in an Alice Cooper tribute.
In 1987 Boads headed west landing in Orange County, CA and after getting settled formed Call Me Crazy, a 3 piece hard rock band where Boads played bass and handled the lead vocal duties. Call Me Crazy was together for 7 years, released one record and played constantly throughout the Southwest.
Call Me Crazy disbanded and Boads landed the bass spot in Drug Opera who had just finished recording their debut release and offered an opportunity for Boads to satisfy a craving to play a bit harder and a bit faster. Boads time in Drug Opera lasted for two years but the experience of not having to handle lead vocal duties and being free to focus on just the bass changed Boads approach to playing and he fell in love with the Bass all over again.
Now handling the low end for StoneBreed Boads feels he is in just the right spot, “I’m blown away to be playing with musicians of this caliber, we’ve got decades of shared experiences and influences and that is why after playing together for only a short time we sound like we’ve been together for twenty years,” says Boads.
